Workshops

Educate to Liberate Academy equips first-generation and low-income students with the critical thinking, media literacy, and educational navigation skills needed to thrive in an increasingly complex world. Through partnerships with schools, nonprofits, churches, and community organizations, we deliver engaging workshops that help students analyze information critically, understand how algorithms shape identity, and strategically navigate pathways to higher education and leadership.

Our programming goes beyond traditional college prep. Workshops explore topics such as media literacy, misinformation and disinformation, algorithmic bias, digital identity formation, critical thinking, civic awareness, and educational access alongside practical sessions on college admissions and professional development.

All workshops are rooted in lived experience, grounded in research and real-world relevance, and designed to meet students where they are — whether they are beginning to imagine their futures, learning to question the media they consume, or preparing to become highly competitive applicants and changemakers in their communities.
Media Literacy and Critical Thinking Workshops
#ForYourPage: Algorithmic Bias and Identity Formation
Explores how social media algorithms shape the way we see ourselves, each other, and the world around us — especially regarding race, gender, beauty standards, politics, and identity. Through analyzing culturally relevant and Gen Z-centered content like TikToks, memes, streamers, podcasts, and viral clips, students learn how platforms influence beliefs, reinforce stereotypes, and manipulate attention. Participants will critically examine how recommendation systems can create echo chambers, normalize harmful narratives, and impact self-esteem, relationships, and social perceptions. This workshop empowers students to become more conscious digital consumers who can think critically about the content shaping their realities.
Workshops For College Students
Maximizing College – What No One Tells First-Gen Students
Too often, students are told that college is the key to success without being taught how to actually make the most of it. This workshop breaks down the “hidden curriculum” of higher education and equips students with a practical game plan to thrive: networking, building your resume, and more. It includes a self-audit activity that helps students assess where they stand and what to improve.
Workshops For High School Students
College 101 – Everything You Were Never Taught About Higher Education

This foundational workshop is designed for students who are completely new to the world of college, especially those attending schools with limited college advising or no College & Career Center at all.

In this session, I break down the basics of higher education in an accessible, student-friendly way: the different types of institutions (community colleges, HBCUs, Ivies, liberal arts colleges), how to construct a strong college list, admissions types and timelines, financial aid and the student loan crisis, and common myths like “college is a scam.”

It’s an information-rich, demystifying presentation that gives students a broad but clear overview of the college landscape, and empowers them to ask better questions, set informed goals, and start planning for their future.
